About the Item
Stunning and completely unique one of a kind original artwork - by the well listed French abstract painter, Bernard Herzog (b.1935).
During the latter part of his career, like Henri Matisse, Herzog started to experiment creating artwork with cut out collages stuck down onto card. The image you see here has been created by Herzog by cutting out images and piecing them all together to create this amazing one of image - together with paint on the paper as well.
The work has impeccable provenance as we bought it from Herzog's studio sale in Paris. It also carries the artist stamp verso - as well as being numbered.
Condition, size and provenance:
Very good condition. Some of the cutouts have lifted a little on their edges but will flatten easily once framed.

Colourful, French mixed media abstract, acrylic, newsprint and ink from the 1980s. The canvas is signed and dated bottom right but we have not yet managed to decipher it.
A colourful and engaging painting crossing over styles. The colourfield elements are reminiscent of the work of Mark Rothko, three defined bands of colour in orange/pink tones vertically dissecting the painting with one horizontal band across the top, and yet the elongated depiction of the female figures within the bands remind us of Gustav Klimt and his paintings of Adele.
