About the Item
Keith Haring was an American artist and representative of American Pop Art of the 1980s. He first came to public attention with his chalk drawings in the New York underground, which depicted his well-known figures such as the "barking dog" and the "radiant baby". Haring took part in numerous exhibitions, including internationally renowned events such as Documenta 7 and the Biennale in Paris. In addition to his artistic activities, he was also actively involved in the fight against AIDS and founded the Keith Haring Foundation before he himself died as a result of an HIV infection.
Keith Haring's works are an extension of his diverse artistic oeuvre and are often characterised by their uniqueness. An outstanding example is the present work "for Ciccio", which was created in 1988 and shows a woman breastfeeding a little devil. It shows Haring's characteristic style, which is characterised by vivid colours and clear lines, and is an impressive example of Keith Haring's versatile artistic work, which knows no bounds.

Keith Haring
Keith Haring began experimenting with his bold, graphic lines and cartoon-inspired figures on the walls of New York City subway stations in the early 1980s. He called them his “laboratory,” places to develop a radical new aesthetic based on an ideology of creating truly democratic public art.
Haring’s paintings, prints and murals address the universal themes of death, love and sex, as well as contemporary issues he experienced personally, like the crack-cocaine and AIDS epidemics. They derive much of their impact from the powerful contrast between these serious subjects and the joyful, vibrant pictographic language he uses to express them, full of dancing figures, babies, barking dogs, hearts and rhythmic lines, as well as references to pop culture.
To make his art even more accessible, in 1986, Haring opened the Pop Shop in Soho. In a foreshadowing of today’s intermingling of art and fashion, the shop sold merchandise and novelty items featuring imagery by Haring and contemporaries like Kenny Scharf and Jean-Michel Basquiat. While his works sometimes included text, for the most part, he chose to communicate through drawing.
“Drawing is still basically the same as it has been since prehistoric times,” Haring once declared. “It lives through magic.”

Curt Stenvert was an Austrian avant-garde artist who initially worked as a painter. His artistic practice gradually expanded to include cinematic works and object art. His works are still internationally acclaimed today.
He received his artistic training through his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. He studied there with Albert Paris Gütersloh and Fritz Wotruba, which enabled him to deal with aspects of movement and perspective. This resulted in his aluminium plexiglass sculptures.
