A new middle class began to emerge in Colonial America and a migration into urban areas began. Unlike farmhouses, these new homes were elegant two-store homes designed in the new Georgian style, imitating the lifestyle of the upper middle class of England. The interiors consisted of a passageway down the middle of the house with specialized rooms off the sides, such as a library, dining room, sitting room or a primary bedroom. Unlike the multi-purpose space of the farmhouse, each of these rooms served a separate purpose. This new middle class had leisure time to entertain guests. In this sitting room, the Kupjacks have replicated this stately room with upholstered furniture, a working fireplace, decorative ceramics and silver accent pieces. Using a range of costumes, props and backdrops to manipulate her own appearance and to create photographs resembling promotional film images, the series explores the tension between artifice and identity in consumer culture which has preoccupied the artist’s practice ever since. Sherman continued to channel and reconstruct familiar personas known to the collective psyche, often in unsettling ways. Inspired by the artists of the Modern Art era, including Post-Impressionist Paul Cezanne, Kang visualizes the modern day search for identity in an age where information and images permeate every aspect of contemporary life. Tae Ho Kang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1945. He studied at the College of Arts of Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea. About his mixed media artworks, he remarks: “One day, when I was traveling, I was impressed by the beautiful scenery of the city under the sky, with many straight lines, curved lines, and harmonies of different colors, which seemed to be a magnificent orchestral performance. The beauty of this urban landscape gave me a deep impression and great change began to take place in my work. I wanted to be a molecule in this huge space. I have to find a house of my heart to be molecule. Where is the house I live in? What is my identity? This question has begun to arise. I am on a long journey to find my own house.” His mixed media collage artworks have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions as well as international art fairs throughout the US and in Korea. Kang's work has also been featured in Television and Film productions, including Criminal Minds, NCIS Los Angeles, Unforgettable, The Mindy Project, The Great Indoors, and American Housewife. His artworks have been exhibited and acquired by private collectors around the world.
