Two Roses, Oil Painting
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
"The painting symbolizes romantic love," shares artist Hilary Gomes. Velvety blossoms in pink and red are in full display under the warm rays of the summer sun. Hilary captures the scene from the Filoli Gardens at the Filoli Historic House and Garden in California. She starts her process with a raw umber underpainting on textured linen that adds a touch of character to the piece. She then paints with an indirect oil painting method using a soft natural palette.

The Hudson River, Palisades
By Hal Robinson
Located in Milford, NH
A fine impressionist landscape of the Palisades on the Hudson River by English / American artist Harry “Hal” Robinson (1867-1933). Robinson was born in Leominster, County Hereford, England. He spent much of his childhood in Liverpool, where his father was a prominent doctor and master chemist. Though American sources often report Robinson’s birth year as 1875, according to his baptism record he was actually born in 1867. He should not be confused with the American artist Harry A. Robinson or the British painter Harry W. Robinson.Hal Robinson arrived in NYC in 1893 and by 1900 had a studio on West 57th Street. Historians suggest that after 1910, Robinson painted at Old Lyme and was influenced by Childe Hassam and Willard Metcalf. He exhibited at the National Academy of Design, at the Corcoran Gallery and at the Carnegie International. Oil on canvas, signed lower right, stamped on verso “Collection of Paul Denz, Branford CT...

Mathieu Matégot - Sans titre, tapestry, french, modern, abstract, wool, design
Located in London, GB
Mathieu Matégot (1910-2001) Sans titre c.1950s wool tapestry, Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre 150 x 70 cm signed ‘Matégot’ and with the Manufactura de Tapeçarias de Portalegre monogram (lower right) Price: $11,000 USD Provenance: Barry Friedman Ltd, New York (stock no. BF21324) Notes: Mathieu Matégot was a Hungarian-born French designer, architect and artist. After studying at Budapest's School of Fine Arts in 1929, Matégot travelled across Italy and the USA until settling in Paris in 1931 where he worked as a set designer, window dresser and tapestry maker. Matégot volunteered for the French resistance at the start of the Second World War, only to be captured by the Nazis. A dreadful fate for most, however, it was during his time as a prisoner of war that the artist discovered metalworking techniques (such as Rigitulle) which he later patented and became renowned for. Upon his release, Matégot was awarded French citizenship. After the war, the artist's interest in tapestry was renewed after being introduced to contemporary tapestry revivalist, Jean Lurçat. However, in order to make ends meet, Matégot pursued furniture design; he established a workshop in Paris and dedicated his time to translating the groundbreaking metal techniques into popular handcrafted objects. In 1959, Matégot abandoned furniture design and focused exclusively on his passion for abstract tapestries. He continued his work as a pioneer of French Modern tapestry...
