About the Item

Celebrate the Queen The extraordinary public and private life of the world’s most famous monarch Born in 1926, married in 1947, crowned as Queen in 1953, Queen Elizabeth II has carried out her royal duty for more than six decades. This book tells her remarkable royal story through hundreds of stunning photographs, many published here for the first time. Brimming with history, politics, glamour, culture, world travel, and such icons of their age as the Beatles, Marilyn Monroe, and JFK, these photographs cover every aspect of the Queen’s reign. Sourced from archives around the world, including the Royal Collection itself, they cover Her Majesty’s early years, her coming of age during World War II, becoming a wife, Queen and mother, the international tours, the state functions, the palaces, the crowds, the weddings, the Royal Family, the Silver Jubilee in 1977, as well as more recent years of her steadfast reign. Featured photographers include Cecil Beaton, Studio Lisa, Dorothy Wilding, Karsh, Lord Snowdon, Patrick Lichfield, Wolfgang Tillmans, Rankin, and Annie Leibovitz. This limited Art Edition of Her Majesty, with cover by Vivienne Westwood, is a handcrafted couture collector’s item. Featuring a design referencing the Queen’s reign, Great Britain, and Vivienne’s own Gold Label collection, the cover is embellished with a drawing of the Star of the Noble Order of the Garter, hand-stitched with silver metallic thread. The book is also encased in an elegant mother of pearl clamshell box. The understated white of the box has been designed to contrast against the resolute color palette of the book inside. The artist British fashion icon Vivienne Westwood is singlehandedly responsible for bringing punk and new wave into the mainstream in the 1970s, and remains one of the most influential designers in the fashion world today. Her first foray into fashion was a collaboration with Sex Pistols manager Malcom McLaren for his London shop, opened in 1971, and a decade later she presented her first catwalk show, entitled "Pirates." Her new romantic style was a dominant force in 1980s fashion, and her designs have continued to have a strong impact on clothing design and style in the world today. The photographer Glasgow-born Harry Benson has photographed every US President since Eisenhower, the Civil Rights movement, and was next to Robert Kennedy when he was assassinated. As well as The Beatles, he has shot some of the biggest personalities of the last 50 years, including Michael Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Her Majesty The Queen. In 2009, he was made Commander of the British Empire (CBE). Her Majesty. Vivienne Westwood Edition No. 501–1,000. London - Portrait of a City, Paul Smith Edition ‘Traffic Policeman’
Located in Toronto, ON
London Calling Tailor-made for TASCHEN by Paul Smith For die-hard lovers of Paris, Berlin, London, Los Angeles, and New York, TASCHEN introduces the Portrait of a City Art Edition series. For each edition, limited to only 500 copies, a legendary local fashion designer is invited to design a bespoke fabric to line the cover, and a large signed and numbered print of one of the images from the book is included. Limited to 500 numbered copies Comes with a fine art print on archival paper, signed by Elmar Ludwig Packaged in a special cover and clamshell case designed by legendary British fashion designer Paul Smith Samuel Johnson famously said that: “When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.” London’s remarkable history, architecture, landmarks, streets, style, cool, swagger, and stalwart residents are pictured in hundreds of compelling photographs sourced from a wide array of archives around the world. London is a vast sprawling metropolis, constantly evolving and growing, yet throughout its complex past and shifting present, the humor, unique character, and bulldog spirit of the people have stayed constant. This book salutes all those Londoners, their city, and its history. In addition to the wealth of images included in this book, many previously unpublished, London’s history is told through hundreds of quotations, lively essays, and references from key movies, books, and records. From Victorian London to the Swinging ’60s; from the Battle of Britain to punk; from the Festival of Britain to the 2012 Olympics; from the foggy cobbled streets to the architectural masterpieces of the millennium; from rough pubs to private drinking clubs; from Royal Weddings to raves, from the charm of the East End to the wonders of Westminster; from Chelsea girls to Hoxton hipsters; from the power to the glory: in page after page of stunning photographs, reproduced big and bold like the city itself, London at last gets the photographic tribute it deserves. Photographs by: Slim Aarons, Eve Arnold, David Bailey, Cecil Beaton, Bill Brandt, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Anton Corbijn, Terence Donovan, Roger Fenton, Bert Hardy, Evelyn Hofer, Frank Horvat, Tony Ray-Jones, Nadav Kander, Roger Mayne, Linda McCartney, Don McCullin, Norman Parkinson, Martin Parr, Rankin, Lord Snowdon, William Henry Fox Talbot, Juergen Teller, Mario Testino, Wolfgang Tillmans, and many, many others. Also available in another Art Edition (No. 1–500) The artist Now at the helm of his eponymous and highly successful global brand, Paul Smith came to fashion in an accidental way. At the age of 16, he happened upon a job at a local clothing warehouse in his native Nottingham. After an accident derailed his hopes at a career in cycling, he befriended students at the local art college and was inspired to pursue a career in clothing design. With the encouragement of his future wife Pauline Denyer (an RCA fashion graduate) and a small amount of savings, Smith opened his first shop in 1970. In 1976, he showed his first menswear collection in Paris under the Paul Smith label. In the ensuing years, Paul Smith had established himself as the pre-eminent British designer, currently overseeing 14 different collections, including men's and women's wear, shoes, eyewear, and fragrance. The photographer Born in Halle in Germany in 1935, Elmar Ludwig began his apprenticeship as a photographer in Munich in 1951, aged 16. He got his first job with Foto Reger and subsequently spent two years as an assistant to Karl Hugo Schmölz, a well-known architecture and advertising photographer in Cologne. 1962 Ludwig was recruited as a postcard photographer by Irish publisher John Hinde...

The Beatles on the Road 1964-1966 (Signed)
By Harry Benson
Located in Toronto, ON
These photos convey a really happy period for them and for me. It all comes down to music, they were without a doubt the greatest band of the 20th century, and that's why these photographs are so important. Harry Benson, 2011 In early 1964, Harry Benson was getting on a plane for a foreign assignment in Africa, when he got a call from his photo editor of London newspaper The Daily Express. He was now going with the Beatles to Paris to document French Beatlemania and what followed was the biggest (ticket to) ride of his life. Benson was warmly welcomed into the Beatles inner sanctum, resulting in some of the most intimate photographs ever taken of the band, then on the cusp of world domination. In Paris, he took the iconic photograph of the Fab Four having a pillow fight at the George V hotel; he shot their groundbreaking first visit to the United States, the full impact of New York hysteria, their famous appearance on the Ed Sullivan show, the band in Florida, including their surprising encounter with Cassius Clay; as well as on the set of A Hard Day's Night. The relationship continued in 1966, including George's honeymoon in Barbados and their notorious US tour, under the shadow cast by Lennon's comment that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus Christ. Benson's luminous black and white photographs show at close quarters the Beatles composing...
