Editorial Review:
Rhapsody'' is Bartlett's multi-part, multi-theme epic, a statement of the coming of age of an artist. A portable mural extended over 987 one-foot steel plates requiring 153 running feet of wall space, it is an enormous and infrequently mastered challenge to install and exhibit. In 1985-86, however, it will be on view in Minneapolis, Kansas City, Brooklyn, La Jolla, and Pittsburgh, and well worth a trip. In book form it becomes more available, with Smith's guided tour through sections, with Bartlett's notes giving conceptual coherence, and the opportunity to move from close-up to long view by turning a page. Rhapsody'' and this book afford a glimpse of a mind and art in action, a discovering and ordering process, an exciting demonstration of ways of growing and expressing the self and the world. Highly recommended.
About Jennifer Bartlett:
By the mid-1970s, Jennifer Bartlett (1941-2022, b. Long Beach, California) had emerged as a leading American artist of her time—particularly following the landmark presentation at Paula Cooper Gallery of Rhapsody (1976), Bartlett’s magnum opus, now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Bartlett’s first survey exhibition was held in 1985 at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and traveled to the Brooklyn Museum, New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art, Philadelphia, among others. In 2006, the Addison Gallery of American Art surveyed Bartlett’s early enameled steel plate paintings in the period from 1968–76. In 2013-14, Klaus Ottmann curated her second traveling survey, which visited the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Parrish Art Museum, New York. In 2014, the Cleveland Museum of Art united her three monumental plate...

Painter and printmaker Will Barnet has actively participated in the New York art world for nearly 70 years. A leading figure in the Indian Space painting movement of the late 1940s, Barnet stressed the spatial structures of Northwest Coast Indian art. Throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s, he made a series of hardedged, totemic abstractions marked by their "all-positive" space, which he described as austere, classical expressions of Indian culture. He then moved on to new art forms in the 1960s and 1970s, creating a series of family and art world portraits that achieved a remarkable balance between the formal demands of abstraction and the humanist aspects of representation.
Will Barnet: A Timeless World is the first substantial publications to unify Barnet's prodigious output. Art historian Gail Stavitsky provides an overview of this artist's entire career. The text of this book is by Graydon Carter, Karl Lagerfeld, Jennifer Allen, and Patrick Kinmonth. This volume contains 300 pages with numerous color photographs - all in excellent condition. There is some minor scuffing/scratching on the lenticular cover and, on the title page with signature, there's a one inch ink mark that was either part of the printing process or done by the artist himself when he signed the book in his inimitable hand, but it's otherwise in very good condition. The interior pages are bright and crisp and the photographs are absolutely dazzling. This book is from the international collector's edition of 1500 that were hand signed by Testino. Comes in the original publisher's box.

This is a Business Card by Guido Piovene with Autograph notes in black ink.
Venice, July 15th 1935.
On a cardboard business card (cm 6.2 x 8.5). Excellent condition, perfecly readable, including the original envelope (cm 10.3 x 16.8).
It is curious to note that the young journalist , Guido Piovene (Vicenza, 1907 - London, 1974), cancels the title of Count on this business card he sends to the Countess Pecci-Blunt. And Piovene adds heartfelt thanks and greetings by hand.
The background:
Four year before this correspondence, in 1931 Piovene published his first short stories in The Merry Widow, printed by the Buratti brothers. It took ten years for Piovene to publish his second work, Letters from a novice. But the Italian writer and journalist will be always remembered for his travel reportages: like "Viaggio in Italia" (1957), the most famous literary guide of the Bel Paese...

Autograph Greeting Letter Signed. Two pages, single-sided. On letterhead paper "Il Ministero degli Affari esteri".
From the Italian Embassy of London and from the Monistero degli Affari Esteri, the Italian diplomat, Dino Grandi writes these greeting and thank-you letters to the Countess and Patron of arts, Anna Laetitia Pecci-Blunt. These are hard times, during the Fascist period, as the Countess Pecci-Blunt writes in an autograph note attached "Epoca del ventennio", and how Dino Grandi refers.
