In Andrea’s diptych, CONVERGENCE, the canvas is dominated in dreamy haze of blues, golds and purples. These colors blend together the same way shadows and light give the illusion of opening one’s eyes underwater. When each panel is turned around, there is a convergence of shapes and patterns in all directions. However, the fluidity of the initial composition is sharply contrasted by the piece’s distinctive uneven checkered surface—created by pouring white beeswax over the canvas. As with all of Andrea’s textural encaustic works, the torching and layering of molten beeswax with oil are reflective of nature’s interconnection.
