This minimalist acrylic painting that features a moon is by Aron Hill.
The bold graphic design of Aron Hill’s work echoes the clean lines of modernist influences such as Jack Bush. Hill uses acrylic paints and ink washes to create their interpretation of a contemporary landscape. Known for their use of vivid colours, this piece is painted in deep blue, yellow, hot pink, orange and black on a raw white canvas.
The bright white full moon, a familiar image for the Calgary artist, is a centuries-old symbol of mystery and magic. As the moon’s shape changes nightly, it is also often used to represent the idea of renewal. One of a series.

Aron Hill obtained a BFA in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Alberta College of Art and Design and an MFA from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 2006. They have exhibited across Canada and in Dubai. Hill’s work is held in private and corporate collections.

Aron Hill's practice is focused on a formalist type of painting that recalls aspects of minimalism and Color-Field paintings though with references to the figure throughout. They find conceptual company in the late modernist paintings produced particularly in Canada. The choice of primary colors and a restricted medium is a conscious restraint informed by Hill’s artistic influences such as Jack Bush and William Perehudoff. The work's graphic nature relies on the sheer flatness that this medium produces.
Hill currently lives and works in Calgary, Alberta. They graduated from Alberta College of Art and Design in 2000 with a BFA in Interdisciplinary studies. Hill then completed their MFA at Goldsmiths College, University of London. Hill has exhibited internationally, and occasionally lectures and writes.
