About the Item
Original acrylic paint on canvas abstract painting attributed to the hand of the well known American artist, Brett Taylor. Circa 1967. Condition is very good. Presently unframed. Framing options are available. Artist signed name verso with old price. Provenance: A Long Island, New York collector.
Brett Taylor (American 1943-1983)
In the 1960s, Taylor — just turning 23 — settled on the unspoiled island of Paros, at the center of the Cyclades. It was as good as undiscovered. Perhaps a dozen foreigners lived on the island among its population of less than 2,000. Bicycles were the mode of transportation because there were only two cars. Anything heavy required donkeys pulling carts. There were no telephones, no television, and no U.S. newspapers. Here, largely insulated from contemporary art movements, Taylor founded the first art school in the Aegean — the Aegean School of Fine Art — still active today. Both faculty and students consistently cited his charisma as a powerful catalyst for his mission of creating a then new cross-disciplinary approach to art education.
