About the Item

This acrylic on panel painting by Bryan Boone is the first in a series of three major designs. "I was interested in constraining the design parameters across a series of iterative paintings. For Decision Drift 1, the focus is the diagonal line separating the orange fields. The line shifts in angle degree across the five designs, resulting in a kind of frame-by-frame motion when viewed together. The root design is instilled in this piece as the largest and first of the series. At the time of their design and production, I was also interested in creating texture by aligning or offsetting brushstroke grain. You see this most acutely in the aqua green fields where parallel grains intersect wave textures or nearly perpendicular impasto applications. The white field at the top left of the piece is applied in a mix with matte medium over an orange field to create striations of color differentiation within the grain. The blue field is applied over a red hue underpainting that deepens the color and allows subtle dichroiclike effects along edges where the layers do not perfectly align." -- Bryan Boone Bryan Boone is an artist and designer living and working in Kansas City. From early in life he has been captivated by architecture, construction and process.

'Unknown Steps-Geometric Abstraction, ' by Bryan Boone, Acrylic on Panel Painting

"This is the sixth piece in the 'Unknown Steps' series where I concentrated on creating compositions constructed off of an obtuse angle. In this piece, that focus is the line starting in the lower right corner that reaches up and left before intersecting the blue and aqua fields and turning to intersect the horizon line of the composition. The other lines were then arranged as an extension of that core structure. Every field was composed of multiple translucent layers resulting in complex depth and visual texture." -- Bryan Boone...
