About the Item

Signed lower right, 'Woskow' for Catherine Woskow (American, born 1958); titled and dated on label, verso, 'Red Triptych 1997.' Born in Ukiah, California, Catherine Woskow has built a career characterised by rigorous education and significant awards that directly shaped her artistic development. Woskow commenced her studies at Bradford Liberal Arts College in Massachusetts where, in 1977, she received a Merit Scholarship. She was subsequently awarded the George Haseltine Art Prize, becoming the first undergraduate in the school’s history to earn this honor. Woskow continued her studies at Sonoma State University. where, in 1980, she was awarded the Rotary International Foundation Grant. This allowed her to move to the Netherlands and continue her studies at the Royal Academy of Art in Amsterdam. This important period in her development allowed her an immersive experience of the European tradition that not only introduced her to new visual vocabularies but also expanded her cultural reach. Woskow's practice evolved from early figurative explorations—“Nudes” and “Persons” rendered in oil wash and pencil—toward a fusion of abstraction and figuration, culminating in the “Abstract Minimalism” works of the 1990s and the “Vertical Series” of the early 2000s. In 2006, Woskow was again recognized with a major award, the LB Research and Education Foundation Grant of $25,000. This support granted her the freedom to devote a full year to artistic experimentation, a period that directly influenced her mature “Head Series.” These paintings, constructed from layers of acrylic, graphite, and erasure on wood panels, became central to her inquiry into memory, identity, and psychic flux. Over the course of a distinguished career, Catherine Woskow has exhibited widely and with success. She has been the recipient of prestigious prizes, medals and juried awards and the subject of numerous solo shows, including with Davis & Cline Gallery, Eleonore Austerer Gallery, Vorres Gallery, and Tercera Gallery. She has also been featured at museum shows including at the Grace Carpenter Hudson Museum in 2006 and 2013. We are pleased to offer this substantial and vibrant abstract dating to the artist's middle period. Untitled (Triptych 5) : contemporary abstract work of art
Located in New York, NY
Abstract geometric artwork by a contemporary artist Gerald Wolfe. Gerald Wolfe’s wall pieces have a three-dimensional, architectural feel. The artist’s approach to his paintings is intuitive. He meticulously creates his works step by step, imbuing shapes and lines with energy. The interplay of forms, color, and texture creates tension between flatness and depth. His work can become a unique gift and will be a wonderful addition to any space, be it a living room of a modern home or a lobby of a commercial building. Gerald Wolfe received a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from the University of Maryland in 1972, discovered his interest in art and went on to study fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. In the summer of 1974, he also studied at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. From his first show in 1979, a summer invitational at OK Harris Gallery, Gerald has shown his work on a consistent basis in New York, including such galleries as Denise Bibro Fine Art, NYC, and Kim Foster Gallery, NYC . In addition, he has had solo exhibits at the Paterson Museum in Paterson, New Jersey...
