About the Item
"Tilted Square," Acrylic and Oil on Panel, 18 x 18 Inches, is an elegant and complex geometric abstraction in black, olive green, light blue and brown. Exquisitely crafted, there is a jaunty quality to this work, and many of Gibbs' paintings in general, and a clear homage to the Russian Suprematist movement.
It is simply framed by the artist in a slightly distressed white wood strip frame.
This is one of several new small geometric abstractions in more neutral colors (tan, green, black, white) that are strong works that command a space individually or function well in tandem as part of a series. The artist occasionally incorporates actual 23 karat gold leaf.
Larger related paintings are also available.
Commissions are an option too, Gibbs has completed many.
Charlotte Gibbs’ paintings of flags, such iconic Pop cultural symbols as the Coca-Cola logo, and the stark geometric forms identified with the Bauhaus and Minimalism startle our expectations of such classic imagery. Consistently to be found in Gibbs’ luxurious works is the artist’s keen knowledge of the history of art, her love of referencing it, and a subtle sense of humor.

Charlotte Andry Gibbs attended Newcomb College and received a BFA in Painting from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston in 1971. She has had 3 one-person exhibitions at the Beth Urdang Gallery and has been included in over 25 group shows, primarily in the New England area where the artist resides.
Most recently Gibbs had the distinct honor of being awarded FIRST PRIZE in the Roddy Competition held at the Concord Center for Visual Arts in Massachusetts where she was singled out among 540 SUBMISSIONS BY 340 VARIOUS ARTISTS by Katherine French, the Director.
