About the Item
Self-Portrait
This is not a portrait of appearance — it is a map of scars, inner cracks, and wounds that remain unseen. I am not a victim, and not a heroine. I simply exist. Alive. Wounded, but not broken. It is a recognition of pain — not a worship of it.
I do not carry these marks as a burden — I accept them as part of the path. Each scar is a point from which healing began. This is a self-portrait not of suffering, but of strength — the strength to keep going, to learn to live with joy — despite everything.
Visual & Technical Description
In Self-Portrait, the artist constructs the image not through resemblance, but through internal structure.
The head is transformed into a tense form, assembled from coarse geometries, as if the artist were modeling not a face, but an experience — with no intention of reproduction, and full freedom of plastic expression.
Plaster functions not as an illustrative medium, but as a direct carrier of gesture: everything that happens through the artist’s hand is recorded in cracks, incisions, and ruptured lines. The composition reveals the influence of cubist plasticity — not as quotation, but as an independent use of geometric tension to express inner pressure.
Here, the “what” and the “how” cannot be separated: image, matter, and gesture become one. This is not a self-portrait in the conventional sense, but an installation of bodily memory — a form that has endured compression and emerged to the surface.
The color palette is minimal and intentionally restricted, allowing the viewer to focus on structure and texture.
Luhova’s works are shaped within a language of tactile surrealism, where matter is not illustrative but meaningful. Her self-portrait is not a mirror, but a relief zone of displacement, where personal experience takes form — perceptible on a physical level.
