About the Item

"Exponent" is a framed acrylic painting on panel by David Rothermel, featuring large swaths of color in black, golden yellow, red, and a hazy purple-gray. The tremendous scale of the piece leaves a lasting impact as the expressive brushstrokes around the edge add a sense of movement. This piece is finished in a gold floater frame with a black woodgrain finish along the frame's sides and interior. Pricing includes the pictured frame. Unframed dimensions are 72 X 84 inches. American artist, David Rothermel of David Rothermel Contemporary, Santa Fe, New Mexico, was born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, a small town located at the confluence of the north and west branches of the Susquehanna River. David first studied art at York Academy of Art, located in York, PA. He later went on to study and graduate from the prestigious Pennsylvania Academy of Art. Two of his summers were spent in Maine at the much coveted Skowhegan School of Painting, studying under preëminent American masters. Along with many student awards, scholarships and accolades, David has remained steadfast in his professional career. When David moved to New Mexico in 1981, he first took a job as an art director for an outdoor advertising company. His days were spent painting 10’ X 40’ billboards. His yearning for painting on a large scale was fulfilled until he fell from the scaffolds and broke both arms. Among the many solo gallery and museum exhibitions, David’s works are represented in galleries throughout the US. His works are included in many private and public collections. Two of his watercolors are part of nationally recognized permanent collection of the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine.

"Abstract Alchemy #1" Black and White with Yellow Abstract Painting
By Hyunmee Lee
Located in Baltimore, MD
"My art practice crosses three continents over two decades. The works consider the images and ideas that mark my journey into the spiritual and cultural dimensions of painting as a creative activity. During a period when I have carried adventurous journeys across several different social and geographic divides, I began to search deeper for an understanding of who I am, and where I am. My paintings started to explore the idea of self as the most fundamental element of human nature; I tried to seek my identity as I examined human nature."
