About the Item

"Invisible Surf", Large-Scale Impasto Abstract Dreamscape by Duane Bousfield Stunning impasto abstract expressionist oil painting by Duane Bousfield (American, b. 1960.) 1994. In this large-scale abstract piece, shimmery tones of lavender, electric blue, and glowing hues ebb and flow together in a swirling composition evocative of a cosmic dreamland. Signed, titled "Invisible Surf" and dated 1994 on verso. Presented in light oak wood slate frame. Measures 49.75"H x 32.50"W x 2"D. Bousfield's work is generally valued around $8/sq in, with prices reaching upwards of $20,000 Duane Bousfield is a fifth-generation Californian living in New York City since 1995. He earned a B.A at San Jose State University in California. Mr. Bousfield's art explores the relationship of meaning and abstraction. He has been a New York Art Dealer for 20 years in galleries from East Hampton, to 57th Street, and currently in SoHo. He has maintained a studio practice for more than 35 years, focusing on developing his art. Hovering somewhere between representation and abstraction, Duane Bousfield's carefully balanced compositions are a journey into mystic worlds of illusive figures. Through years of examining how lines combine to create shapes and forms, Bousfield developed a highly personal style. Inspired by Kandinsky, Boccioni, Bosch, deKooning, and Klee, his paintings weave foreground and background into interconnecting forms. Rhythmic lines, scraping, dry-brush, and layers of glazes emphasize the surface, while inside the picture plane implied figures act out their abstracted drama on a contained stage. Duane Bousfield was raised in California, graduated with a BA in Psychology from San Jose State University and continued studies in Art Therapy and Painting at UC San Francisco and UC Santa Cruz. He moved to NYC in 1995 where he lives with his husband of 18 years together.
