About the Item

Meeting the Shade is part of the Shadow Series that investigates the ubiquitous patterns of light, shadow and reflection that we all experience daily, but that we rarely stop to notice. The works reflect a perceptual duality: a tangible, distinct moment and place when the source pattern is found, intertwined with the fleeting and ephemeral nature of time. As light and atmospheric conditions shift, my source patterns morph, move and change. Gallery Wrapped. Other vertical Shadow Series paintings can be seen in the images. . An ongoing inspiration for me is the pleasure of going into any outdoor area to search out and capture simple patterns of light and shadow before they disappear. The image may be shadowy organic shapes cast on a bright surface or it may be a shadow of a man-made object in relief, or a mixture of organic and man-made shapes. I take these patterns back to the studio to play with color, scale and texture. Usually through play and experimentation I stumble onto the path of meaning. This is the background for my Shadow series of oil and acrylic paintings.
