Erick Sandlin is a self-taught artist who works exclusively with spray paint. He lives in the Heights in Houston, Texas, by way of Texarkana, College Station, Waco and Austin. Erick is also a commercial litigation attorney at Bracewell LLP.
“Because I work exclusively with spray paint and don't use brushes, I never exactly know what a painting will look like when I'm painting it. I paint in my backyard, so the humidity, the wind, paint mixture and angle of the canvas all affect what happens on the canvas. Leaves and sticks sometimes get in the painting as well. I enjoy the process and seeing each painting come to life. Each painting has a life of its own, and I let the process dictate where each painting goes. I just try to get out of the way.”

William Kalwick’s art was greatly influenced by his late father, a well-known painter. He studied with his father until graduating and then attended the Arts Student League of New York, where he studied with John Howard Sanden. In 1981, Kalwick spent the next six years studying in Houston and Italy with artist Lajos Markos. Kalwick’s paintings cover a wide range of subject matter. However, he is best known for his Guatemalan market scenes, Guatemalan figurative work, and portraits. Recent portrait commissions include Harold Hook, retiring CEO of American General Corp.; Reese Jones, international golf course designer; and Paul Merriman, retiring CEO of Hisco Corp. Kalwick was honored for the second time with a one-man show sponsored by the United States Embassy at the Museo Ixchel in Guatemala City. On a summer morning in 1993 a 22 years old young came to Florida from a small old town in the central area of Cuba called Santa Clara. In his bag, he brought no more than two valuable things, his worn-out brushes and a great dream. The dream to one day become a professional artist in this new land that welcomed him with open arms.
Captivated by his love for the beauty of the Landscapes, his last works are what he sees even in the most common scenes: the close relationship of life and who we are with the natural world around us that asks us to respect and care for it.

" I like to scrutinize in the simple things, sometimes it is there where the lost painting is waiting to be found by the painter's eyes.
The landscape painting gives me the opportunity to establish a close relationship with the natural world and humbly capture on a canvas a little of its beauty listening to its voice that reminds us how valuable we are and how much we should love it".
