My point of view is an original contemporary abstract landscape painting from Gina Parr’s series “Gone fishin’ with Wilf’, remembering fishing with her father Wilf’ as a child and the changes in the coastal landscape, a metaphor for the passage of time, weather for mood, landscape for feeling, whilst exploring the fine line between pure abstraction and figurative recognition, between chance and control during the painting process.
Gina Parr works predominantly in the medium of painting, but also photographs when traveling: her way of painting whilst on the move. Her work is driven by autobiographical themes and natural reference, exploring the human condition through connections to place, time, space and memory. She has exhibited widely in galleries and art fairs in the UK and completed commissions in The Middle East, Belguim and London. Her works are held in collections worldwide including Keble College Oxford, Director of Jestico + Whiles Architects London, President of the Boston’s Children’s Museum USA, and Goldman Sachs Senior Economist, London.
Originally trained as a Fine Artist, graduating with a First Class BA Honours Degree, she went on to Chelsea College of Art to study Set Design, leading to a 25 year career designing many prestigious shows for stage and television. During this time she also lectured in art and design in various colleges including Chelsea College of Art and Nottingham University. She returned to work as an Artist in 2007, bringing her creative experience as a designer to her practice. She now lives and works between Devon and London’s East End.

A few words of the artist about his art:
When i painting landscapes, I usually choose simple geometric arrangements, contrasts of verticals and levels. I juxtapose the smooth surface of the sky with the rough texture of earth or grass.
I paint symmetrical reflections in water and rhythmic repetitions of trees. Even an ordinary, seemingly uninteresting fragment of the suburban landscape hides a beauty that I want to see and then transfer to the canvas.
I am inspired by nature because it contains a hidden secret of existence. For me, painting it is a reflection on life and passing away. It is an attempt to capture the imperceptible essence, to paint what cannot be seen.
I think that my paintings can be a respite, an antidote for a man tired of technology, constant rush, hustle and bustle of the city.
