About the Item

This striking oil-on-canvas by Ivo Tartarini (1912–1993) is a masterful fusion of Cubist and Constructivist influences, executed with clarity, control, and deep aesthetic intelligence. Painted circa 1970, the intricate composition orchestrates a dynamic interplay of geometric forms—primarily rectangles and squares—arranged in a thoughtful pyramidal structure. A nuanced palette of turquoise and green tones evokes movement and depth, while uneven touches of pigment draw the eye to delicate transitions and spatial tension. Ivo Taratarini explores the variations of abstract shapes, such as geometric forms, in a pyramidal juxtaposition, examining the effects and relationships he accentuates with uneven brush touches of color. This outstanding artwork is rich and intricate, with a palette and texture range complementing its geometrically designed color schemes. With technique and style reminiscent of the Cubist movement, a deeper study reveals the artist's unique signature motifs and style as he experiments with an endless variety of abstract forms, inviting the viewer to see the world through his eyes. Tartarini's disciplined technique and meditative formalism invite close study. Beneath the surface, one can sense the artist's signature approach: a commitment to structural rhythm, chromatic equilibrium, and philosophical exploration of abstraction. Signed in the lower right corner "Tartarini" and dated 70, this piece reveals a confident hand at the peak of its conceptual and technical rigor. A handwritten dedication on the reverse—dated Bologna, 2 December 1970—offers a rare glimpse into the artist's personal connection with the work. The inscription reads: "Alla CIDA* – con molte… [illegible word] – Ivo Tartarini." *CIDA, the Italian Center of Astrological Disciplines, was founded in 1970 in Turin, suggesting a symbolic or esoteric resonance within the painting's context. Newly reframed in an elegant contemporary verdigris cerused wood frame with a bleached off-white liner. Measurements: With frame: 23.23 in wide (59 cm) by 29.33 in high (74.5 cm). View: 16.93 in wide (43.5 cm) by 22.83 in high (58.5 cm). Reference: Ivo Tartarini (1912-1993) was born and trained in Bologna. Ivo Tartarini made his debut in the 1940s with a geometric painting that aimed to restore reality essentially. Influenced by the informal trends spreading internationally, Ivo opened the boundaries of form through free brushstrokes that created fluid signs and shades of color. Ivo Tartarini is one of the four major artists who characterised the Bolognese cultural scene in the second half of the 20th century.
