Jongmin Joy Kim
Jongmin Joy Kim draws inspiration from modern Korean art and gritty street art. As a result, the South Korean-born artist works in a venturesome style that, while representative of the influence of icons such as Pablo Picasso and Jean-Michel Basquiat, is distinctly his own.
Kim creates compelling paintings and other mixed media works that are characterized by vivid colors and feature collagist attributes as well as Cubist and Surrealist flourishes.
Kim was born in the city of Gumi, South Korea — the second largest city in the eastern province of Gyeongsangbuk-do. He began drawing at a young age, scribbling out cartoon-style illustrations and using his talent to entertain friends in elementary school.
Kim attended the Gimcheon High School of Arts. After graduating in 2010, he backpacked through Europe and became enamored with the wealth of art he was able to experience while traveling. Kim cites this trip — and a friend he made along the way — as immensely inspirational and credits his time in Europe as having been pivotal to his rekindling the desire to pursue drawing in earnest.
After returning to South Korea, Kim completed a mandatory stint in the military. In 2014, after his discharge, he moved to the United States. He settled in New York City and studied briefly at the School of Visual Arts but quickly grew restless. After six months, Kim dispensed with the idea of attending classes and threw himself into his painting. He immersed himself in the city’s rich and vibrant creative culture, and within a few years, his career began to gain traction.
Kim has been showing his work in solo and group exhibitions ever since, and his work is held in a number of private collections in Korea and the United States. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn.

- La Contrebasse - Expressionist Musician Portrait Oil by Gen PaulBy Gen PaulLocated in Marlow, BuckinghamshireSigned expressionist oil on canvas portrait by French painter and engraver Gen Paul. This charming work depicts a seated musician wearing a green suit with a black bow tie playing the double bass. This beautiful example of Gen Paul's work dates to the 1950's when he painted numerous studies of musicians playing various instruments in jazz such as the saxophone, violin and the double bass. - Lunch at Chez LouisBy Roland DubucLocated in London, GB'Lunch at Chez Louis', oil on canvas, by Roland Dubuc (circa 1970s). The outdoor terrace at restaurants and cafés in France goes back centuries as they have always been a gathering place for intellectuals to meet and debate philosophical issues; for the Avant Garde set to display their works; for artists to compare and exchange ideas and for writers to drown their sorrows over their artistic anguish or melancholy. Even the freedom fighters of the French Revolution and later the French Resistance would meet in cafés to plot their course. Regular people of course also enjoy these venues. A very delightful feature of these French institutions is that there is always room for quiet book readers, romantic couples, business meetings and lively groups of friends sharing a bottle of wine. The artist Dubuc captures a slice of this lovely aspect of French culture in this smile-inducing depiction painted in vivid oils. With a background of greenery, the patrons enjoy the outdoors protected from the intense sun by the table's parasols. Ah, the life. The artwork is in good vintage condition, is framed and signed by the artist in the lower left hand corner. Please enjoy the many photos accompanying this listing. Upon request a video may be provided. About the Artist: Roland DuBuc (1924-1998), French artist, the sixth of 13 children and son of a construction worker. The very precariousness of the family's financial situation forced him to go to work at the age of 14. In extreme poverty, he moved to Rouen where he was lodged by the Salvation Army. During that time he struck up friendships with several artists who gave him advice and taught him techniques of drawing. He moved to other cities later where he met painters including, among others, Fred Pailhès...Category
