About the Item
Katherine Borkowski-Byrne’s “York Street” is a lyrical abstract oil painting on canvas 30 x 60 x 1.5 inch on canvas with very spontaneous brushwork in grays and blacks with thick and thin brush marks in reds, turquoise, and yellows on a gray background. This emotionally raw and expressionist painting was influenced by Jackson Pollocks #34. In my interpretation, I am not a dripper, but more of a “whipper,” as I let the calligraphy brush touch the canvas in both gentle and harsh shipping motions as I dance around the canvas on the floor. “York Street” is unframed with sides painted white and the signature on the reverse.
Katherine paints while listening to opera and translates the many layered-music into many-layered paintings. She is influenced by the art of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism with it’s focus on being in the moment and the use of fortunate accidents and experimental techniques. Katherine’s work is in many corporate and private collections. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, MA.
