This large abstract landscape oil painting by Ken Elliott measures 48" x 48" and is professionally framed in a gold floater frame. Framed, it measures 49.5" x 49.5". It features a forest scape with bright yellow tree leaves which are mirrored by the yellow foreground, all of which is complemented by the light violet shadows between the trees and light teal tones at the bases of the tree trunks. The painting is signed the the artist at the bottom left-hand corner of the canvas, and is wired and ready to hang. "Those yellow trees in fall have a light of their own - they don't need any help from a bright sun," the artist says of this painting. "With that in mind, I set out to create a scene with the yellow leaves functioning as the quiet actors. Putting them against a greyed-down backdrop allowed the various yellow tones to fully come forth and put the entire painting into motion. As it often happens, I was almost finished when I noticed something I hadn’t seen before. This time, it was what appeared to be a breeze moving through. I was trying to create interesting forms, but I was happy to find the wind visually evident, and the title carried that forward." Ken Elliott is an abstract landscape artist based in Colorado. With over 40 years in the art business, his knowledge spans well beyond the easel. Of his work, Elliott says, "My focus is the landscape and its rich store of ideas and inspiration. I am compelled to work from the trees, skies, lakes and streams in their endless variations. I don’t try to recreate nature (even Monet said he never got it right), or attempt storytelling. Instead, the works are simplifications and exaggerations of nature. There was a time when I felt the tyranny of the landscape. That is, I felt limited by making pictures of a place. Now, instead of making pictures, I am free to make paintings - art that comes from nature but is far more reliant on the strategies of making good art objects."
