Cautionary Tale: Big Meshscape

2015

About the Item

Contemporary urbanscape as seen through orange construction mesh, created with acrylic paint and mixed media, including gouache, ink, pencils. Big Meshscape is the largest of Frohsin's "Mesh" paintings from her Cautionary Tales series of 2015. Deep, rich, and complex color and subjectmatter. A visual experience like no other. This painting was featured at Art Silicon Valley / San Francisco International Art Fair. With Frohsin's Cautionary Tales series from 2015, she pushes her mixed media talent into an entirely new realm. Cautionary Tales reflects on how technology is disrupting our world with a speed at which we cannot comprehend the repercussions. It is created in reaction to the wholesale gentrification and neighborhood dislocations the artist has experienced in her own beloved San Francisco, where changes in the name of societal advancement are occurring at a dizzying pace. The messages are universal, however, and not limited to San Francisco. Although the works make a bold statement, they are highly personal and directed with a quiet, guiding voice. Artwork is 40 x 40 inches. Outer dimension of the frame is 41 x 41 inches. Kim Frohsin began exhibiting in the San Francisco Bay Area in the early 1990s, and she was included with Nathan Oliveira, Manuel Neri, and Stephen De Staebler in the “Four Figures from the Bay” exhibit in 1993. With Wayne Thiebaud as the judge, she won the California Society of Printmakers’ Award in 1996, and she exhibited at the de Young Museum in San Francisco in “Bay Area Art: The Morgan Flagg Collection” the following year.
