About the Item

In the evening. 1990, cardboard, oil, 85x137 cm with minor defects Liga Purmale (1948) Was born on October 4, 1948 in Dundaga. She graduated from the secondary art school of Janis Rosenthal in Riga, and then graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia. She is a bright representative of the Latvian art in the middle of 1970s. Her life and art are exceptional examples of counterculture. Purmale is reasonably regarded as one of the first founders of the photorealism principles in Latvian painting. Exhibition 1974 - clearly defined her attempts to achieve in painting a degree of reality, which is even more accurate than photography. Developing the principles of photorealism, the artist perfected her individual style and created her own concept of the landscape. Purmale is one of the leading artists of her generation. The works of Purmale are in the Latvian National Art Museum, in the museum collection of Latvian Artists` Union, at State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, at the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, Rugers University, in the collection of Klava Sipolins Foundation in Canada, in the private collection of Ainars Gulba, as well as in other private collections in Latvia and abroad. The work of Purmale "Saturday night movie" in 2009 on June 9 was sold at auction of international auction house Sotheby`s in London.
