The artist Alexis Portilla obtained his Masters of Fine Arts at Columbia University in 1990. His bold linear lines, use of symbols, pictographs and strong colors create atmospheric abstracts.
“Using simple forms and creating swathes of rich texture, Alexis Portilla builds atmospheric abstract paintings that convey a sense of time having passed. Brushy areas of color suggest the indeterminacy of memory, while bold linear forms speak for the present.”
- Meredith Mendelsohn, Art News magazine review.
Influenced by the emotion of artistic expression in music, poetry and literature, the artist finds bold expression in color, lines and shapes that resemble pictographs, and texture.
The artist has shown in group and solo exhibitions nationally for more than 20 years. His works have been commissioned by major corporations, universities and for private collections.

By Alexis Portilla
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This is a beautiful, abstract expressionist oil painting on linen by Alexis Portilla. This piece is in 2 panels.
He obtained his Masters of Fine Arts at Columbia University in 1990. His bold linear lines, use of symbols, pictographs and strong colors create atmospheric abstracts. Influenced by the emotion of artistic expression in music, poetry and literature, the artist finds bold expression in color, lines and shapes that resemble pictographs, and texture.
“Using simple forms and creating swathes of rich texture, Alexis Portilla builds atmospheric abstract paintings that convey a sense of time having passed. Brushy areas of color suggest the indeterminacy of memory, while bold linear forms speak for the present.” “In some of his smaller works, Portilla experimented with beeswax. Applying a smooth coat of wax over the surface, the artist sealed in his sparse, abstract forms, while leaving whole sections empty, the images hover in the wax, as if frozen in time, yet the pieces have a fresh, almost dewy look.”
- Meredith Mendelsohn, Art News magazine review.
The artist has shown in group and solo exhibitions both nationally and internationally. His works have been commissioned by major corporations, universities and for private collections.

"Ghosts" - Abstract Composition in Acrylic, Oil, and Ink on Cradled Wood Panel
Dramatic abstract composition by Michele King (American, b. 1962). This piece resembles a nebula, with swirling texture and subtle variations in color. Although the piece appears to be mostly black, there are a variety of colors that peek through the top layer. A layer of high gloss varnish creates a nearly iridescent quality to the piece, and the colors shift subtly depending on the viewing angle.
Signed "Michele King" on verso.
No frame, but the edges are painted for a frame-less display.
Board size: 24"H x 24"W
Michele King (American, b. 1962) was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to California in the 1990s. She attended Virginia Tech and Harvard, where she earned her MPA. She pursued graduate studies at the Glasgow School of Art in 2013. Her work is focused on “memory, the future, and ways in which perception is shaped through a combination of reality and imagination.” King’s process involves layering of various media, creating depth and texture.

Carondelet - Figurative Surrealist Portrait Landscape Paintings on Exposed Wood
By Eddy Lee
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Eddy Lee’s figurative surrealist portrait paintings on exposed wood depict emotive sirens who evoke a sense of mystery and seductiveness. His original artworks combine geometric elements with innocent women portraits seeking to trigger emotions, rather than communicating specific explanations. He reconciles the unconscious with rational life, exploring the power of dreams, embracing automatism, and freeing his subjects from the constraints of conscious thought.
This colorful, intriguing portrait is painted with acrylic and gouache on a hand-built cradled wood panel. This one-of-a-kind original artwork is 48 inches high by 36 inches wide and is signed by the artist on the back. It is wired and ready to hang. It does not require framing. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included with this unique work.
Originally from Seattle, Washington, Eddy Lee relocated to Los Angeles in late 2012 to pursue a full-time career as a fine artist. He started his career on the Venice Beach Boardwalk and quickly gained a large following across the United States with exhibitions in San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
The artist’s work is inspired by the works of Audrey Kawasaki...
