About the Item
This piece is created with pleated linen pulled through the center of the wood panel. Then the linen is chromed (like on metal) and has a punch of yellow paint in the center bring the piece to life.
"In the Oculus body of work I was interested in reaching back in time and utilizing classic materials and painting techniques then merging them with contemporary – industrial materials such as bioresin. The use of undulating canvas lends to a raw reductive surface and sensuality. The surface moves the work to a moment where it plays with the viewer’s perception of depth & light.

Lisa Bartleson is a California based, interdisciplinary artist working across genres of painting, installation, sculpture, and ceramics. Known for her exploration of materiality within the light and space movement, her body of works consists of repetitive, meditative mark-making and lustrous color strips. Concentrating on light, color, and luminescence, Bartleson methodically captures discrete transitions between hues of color. Evoking a meditative state, her painting practice is intense and calming, kinetic and stagnant as each of her works focuses on a horizon point within the composition.

This work consists of cut and reassembled sheets of Plexiglas. The process starts with a simple line drawing on paper, which is then transposed onto the Plexiglas. The lines are then cut to create several segments, each one with edges that can be coloured and surfaces that can be altered for effect. After painting these sections are carefully reassembled but with borders that permeate colour within the very surface of the painting. Natural light reflects off the internal painted edges to create a soft diffusion of local colour on either side, allowing each section to resonate with subtle and alternative hues.
