In Wise’s small 18 x 18 inch oil painting “Magico,” we experience energetic mark-making among the rich dark maroons, soft lavenders and greens as well as more tonal, light filled yellows, pinks and greens. In Wise’s “Magico,” we are given a deeper view of the artist’s journey into more abstraction. Wise also allows us to see her energetic mark-making and the dance between her darks and lights. Marcia’s use of her color palette, although always the same in all of her work, is a constant surprise in terms of variation in her seemingly never-ending ability to change the vibratory frequencies of her colors. Here we see the deep darks of her combined dark colors rather than the use of pure black, and how she creates a dynamic excitement not only with color, but also with line and form. Rick darks that tend toward maroons then into soft lavenders and greens, the eye delights in the strength of reds and then relaxes into a more tonal, but light-filled use of yellows, pinks and greens. This oil is 18 x 18 x 1.5 inches, has clean white edges and is signed on the front by the artist. Marcia Wise is a Massachusetts-based contemporary oil painter and educator whose paintings are inspired by nature's landscape forms and patterns, light effects and reflections, and the play of textures.
