Martyn Jones (born 1955) is a British contemporary artist and painter who works from his studio in Cardiff, Wales.
Jones, who was born in Aberaman, near Aberdare in Rhondda Cynon Taf, graduated with an M.A. in Fine Art from Chelsea School of Art, London and was awarded Junior Fellowship at Bath Academy of Art. Among his tutors were the British artists Adrian Heath (close friend of Terry Frost). He also studied with Peter Kinney. Martyn Jones' paintings evoke the spirit of classic late English Modernism - in particular the St Ives School - through their jewel-like flat areas of intense colour. Martyn's abstract paintings are often inspired by the natural world and sometimes are more about that crossover point from figuration to abstraction. Jones’ works of art have been compared with the work of Spanish Catalan Surrealist artist Joan Miro. His work is represented in the UK by the Ffin-y-Parc Gallery and Kooywood Gallery, Wales and the No. 9 Gallery in Birmingham, and in USA by Artefact Pardo Gallery, Miami and the Robert Steele Gallery, New York. “I have always considered my work as belonging to a European tradition in painting. Some of my deepest
influences lie with the work of Joan Miro, Marc Chagall, Wassily Kandinsky, Braque’s ‘Atelier Series’ and my
mentor and tutor Patrick Heron. Primarily my work is about promoting the use of light and colour. I am
interested in my work conveying a sense of immediacy and simplicity, with each painting employing a personal
alphabet of shapes and symbols, enabling me to develop my own visual language. The crossover between
figuration and abstraction and the connection with the world at large, has also been an important focus in my
work. I like to vary the physicality of the surface in employing various painting techniques, such as blending,
stippling, gestural areas of colour and use of line, in an attempt to create a ‘jewel like’ appearance. In inventing
my own imagery, I would like to transform people’s perception and vision of the natural world through my
paintings”. Martyn Jones - August 2019. During 2008 Jones staged his first major international solo exhibition "Overland" at the Robert Steele Gallery, Chelsea, Manhattan, comprising over forty works. The Robert Steele Gallery has represented Jones' work, since 2004, in a variety of international and themed group exhibitions. In March 2010 Jones exhibited his second solo-show at the Robert Steele Gallery, During 2012 Jones exhibited in three solo-shows, at Artefact Pardo Gallery in Palm Beach County, Florida, at the Oriel Ynys Mon Gallery in Anglesey and at the Kooywood Gallery in Cardiff.
Jones' work has been exhibited widely in UK, Europe and USA, including at the National Museums and Galleries of Wales, at the Wales International Centre and the Chrysler Building in New York City.
His signed, unique, work is represented in numerous public and private collections in Europe and the US He is represented by the Kooywood Gallery, Cardiff and by the Robert Steele Gallery, New York City.

Contact Painting Twins Abstract Expressionist Diptych OIl Painting Rainer Gross
By Rainer Gross
Located in Surfside, FL
Rainer Gross (American, b. 1957)
"Neal Twins" (in two parts)," 2000,
Oil diptych painting on panel, signed, titled and dated verso, panel
(unframed/each): 10.25"h x 9"w, overall 10.25 X 18 inches
RAINER GROSS (1951 - )
Rainer Gross was born and educated in Cologne, Germany. He came to the United States in 1973. At that time he worked with Howard Kanovitz and later with Larry Rivers He has exhibited with German galleries and last season at the Tower. His work is represented in numerous private collections. Mr. Gross' excellent draftsmanship and subtle color sense are evident in his acrylics on paper. His paintings and drawings interpret Americana charged with allegorical and classical allusions. The copying of re-rendering ot old masters has a long and venerable history. The Romans copied the Greeks, the Renaissance masters copied the Romans and the academicians of the 19th century copies the Renaissance masters. More recently, such stellar figures as Vincent Van Gogh, Paul Cezanne and Pablo Picasso were "borrowers" who in turn became "lenders" to countless modernists.
The "Art about Art" exhibition at the Whitney Museum reminded us that the art of the past can still provide valid models, even in an age when the unique and objective statement has been valued as never before. A prominent figure in that show was Larry Rivers, perhaps the most consistent renowned "borrower" of his generation, who has spent the last 30 years quoting everybody from Rembrandt to Hiroshige.
This is from his series “Contact Paintings – Twins” As their name implies, the compositions encompass two painted surfaces that the artist presents as a diptych, each panel imprinting on and mirroring the other. The artist sometimes selects one of the two panels and brings his personal touch by adding one or two brushstrokes.
A deeper understanding of Gross’ paintings requires the viewer to consider the challenges entailed in becoming a painter in 1970s Cologne when the ideology of “The End of Painting” professed by Joseph Beuys at the Kunst Akademie Düsseldorf became dominant among the art world’s “elite.” Being a painter meant thinking about the specificities of the medium and new ways to push it forward.
In 2017, Gross was included in the Beijing Biennale as a representative of Germany. In 2012, the Museum Ludwig (Koblenz, Germany) held a four-decade survey of his paintings. Other notable national and international exhibits include the Musée Cantonal des Beaux-Arts (Lausanne, Switzerland), Krannert Art Museum and Kinkead Pavilion (Champaign, Illinois, USA), and Kunsthalle Emden (Emden, Germany). Gross’ paintings are housed in numerous public collections, including the AT&T Corporate Art Collection, the Cohen Family Collection, the Hirshhorn Collection, the UBS Union Bank of Switzerland, and the Lowe Art Museum. His work has been reviewed by the New York Times, Art in America, ArtNews, The Brooklyn Rail, The Boston Globe, and others.

Lyrical Abstraction Acrylic Painting Ronnie Landfield Color Field Abstract
By Ronnie Landfield
Located in Surfside, FL
Ronnie Landfield (1947- American)
"Untitled" 1982 Acrylic on Paper

Hand signed and dated lower right
Provenance: Denman Associates, Seattle gallery
Ronnie Landfield (American, 1947-) is an abstract painter. During his early career from the mid-1960s through the 1970s his paintings were associated with Lyrical Abstraction (related to Postminimalism, Color Field painting, and Abstract expressionism), and he was represented by the David Whitney Gallery and the André Emmerich Gallery.
Landfield is best known for his abstract landscape paintings, and has held more than seventy solo exhibitions and more than two hundred group exhibitions.
Born and raised in Pelham Parkway in the Bronx, Landfield first exhibited his paintings in Manhattan in 1962. He continued his study of painting by visiting major museum and gallery exhibitions in New York during the early sixties and by taking painting and drawing classes at the Art Students League of New York and in Woodstock, New York. He graduated from the High School of Art and Design in June 1963. He briefly attending the Kansas City Art Institute before returning to New York in November 1963. At sixteen Landfield rented his first loft at 6 Bleecker Street near The Bowery (sublet with a friend from the figurative painter Leland Bell), during a period when his abstract expressionist oil paintings took on hard-edged and large painterly shapes. In February 1964, Landfield traveled to Los Angeles; and in March he began living in Berkeley where he began painting Hard-edge abstractions primarily painted with acrylic. He briefly attended the University of California, Berkeley and the San Francisco Art Institute before returning to New York in July 1965.
From 1964 to 1966 he experimented with minimal art, sculpture, hard-edge geometric painting, found objects, and finally began a series of 15 - 9' x 6' mystical "border paintings". After a serious setback in February 1966 when his loft at 496 Broadway burned down, he returned to painting in April 1966 by sharing a loft with his friend Dan Christensen at 4 Great Jones Street. The Border Painting series was completed in July 1966, and soon after architect Philip Johnson acquired Tan Painting for the permanent collection of The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska.
In late 1966 through 1968 he began exhibiting his paintings and works on paper in leading galleries and museums. Landfield moved into his loft at 94 Bowery in July 1967; there, he continued to experiment with rollers, staining, hard-edge borders, and painted unstretched canvases on the floor for the first time. Briefly in 1967-1968 he worked part-time for Dick Higgins and the Something Else Press.
Landfield was part of a large circle of young artists who had come to Manhattan during the 1960s. Peter Young, Dan Christensen, Peter Reginato, Eva Hesse, Carlos Villa, William Pettet, David R.
