About the Item
In this compelling abstract painting Mel Davis uses colour and gestural markings to represent images reflected in a mirror. The palette for this piece—gray with bold black lines contrasts with bright orange, soft blue and golden brown. Davis reimagines everyday objects using traditional techniques in a fresh and modern way.

She was born in Montreal and graduated from Concordia University with a BFA in 1998. A short study trip at the Slade School of Art in London was followed by a move to California where she acquired her MFA at the San Francisco Institute of Art. Davis still lives in the Bay area. Her work has been shown in both solo and group shows in Canada and the U.S.

To great effect, Mel Davis uses colour, shape and patterns to convey emotion in this abstract composition. The palette is dramatic—rich tones of blues, green, orange and burgundy. “My paintings investigate iconic themes in art such as landscape, the portrait, the interior.
