About the Item
Artist Commentary:
So much energy!
Keywords: abstract, resin, color, abstract, marble, painting
Artist Biography:
Created during her daily art and meditation practice, Michelle’s abstract paintings are spontaneous in nature, reflecting her inner world found during the stillness of the pre-dawn morning. Inspired by color, emotion, and daily events, she approaches the canvas not knowing what the final outcome will be. She paints from the heart. Her abstract, Fusion expressionism allows you, the viewer, to see what speaks to you in each piece. Painting is Michelle’s ultimate meditation and mode of expression. She paints with colors that call to her in the moment. Her process requires many layers and pours of paint and is not premeditated, allowing for a spontaneous creation that is highly unpredictable. The interaction between the paints and surface creates a dynamic movement of color. The result is a painting that viewers interact with, finding the message that calls to them. Michelle’s works have found homes coast-to-coast

Artist Commentary:
This painting is from my "Common Threads" series comprised of abstract paintings that metaphorically allude to the links, or threads, tying people, groups, and communities together across differences. We often find ourselves faced with addressing the differences between people, via identity, politics, economic stature, family origin, and more. Real entwined thread, or pulled lengths of wool, in the Common Threads paintings are a metaphor for commonly shared experiences bridging these different identity issues. Shared experiences bind people and their histories together in intimately interesting ways. I am working to use these links and metaphoric threads as a means to find common ground and harmony.

Artist Biography:
Farida Hughes’ lively and intriguing abstract paintings take their inspiration from the gathering and dispersing of crowds, group relationships, and shared histories and stories of people. She developed her abstract mixed media style, and methods of mixing oil paint with resin, after many years of painting with oil paint and experimenting with oil painting mediums. Hughes studied Studio Art and English at Fordham University in New York and received an MFA in Painting from the University of Chicago. Her work is exhibited widely in galleries and art centers and collected nationally. She is currently represented by Walker Fine Art...

Artist Commentary:
For ten years I lived in Minnesota and had a studio in Northeast Minneapolis, which I loved. When I moved to the city, I began to paint compositions of abstracted crowds of people as imagined from above. Can you envision this painting as a large crowd of people? You can hang this either horizontally or vertically. A little impressionistic in expression, this painting also reminds me of a garden of happy flowers.

"Green Lilies, Magenta Barn" 2022 oil and resin painting, abstract landscape
By Darius Yektai
Located in Sag Harbor, NY
In this affecting composition, Yektai combines the dynamism of the abstract expressionist style with the soft, meditative qualities of Monet's waterlilies.
Yektai first paints the canvas with loose strokes of rich deep greens. A pinkish red abstract form takes center stage - ang highlights of yellow flank the edges. Then he pours a clear-grade liquid resin onto the painted canvas and lets it harden into a glassy surface. Finally, he uses linear brushstrokes connecting colors into forms, in the typical impressionist style. Yektai varies the volume in which he applies paint, from thin and dry to sopping wet and thick. This process allows for a more three-dimensional experience of the painting. One can see through layers which build-up to create the flurry of brushstrokes. The reflective surface makes space for the viewer to see themselves in the painting, looking back at them. A contemporary notion.
Framed dimensions: 29 x 23 inches
Artist Bio
Darius Yektai was born in Southampton NY, in 1973. He lives and works out of his home and studio in Sag Harbor. He grew up in a cultural home of art and artists, with his Greek-American Mother, and his Father, Manoucher Yektai...
