Encaustic on Canvas.
Encaustic painting is also know as hot wax painting which involves using heated beeswax to which colored pigments are added. The liquid or paste is then applied to the canvas surface. Winter is Coming, has a thick layer of the encaustic in nine defined sections. Threads of strings appear haphazardly on the piece. The simplicity of this piece is enhanced by it roughness in texture and variegated tones.
Mimi Bates is an accomplished artist having received her BFA at Corcoran College of Art and Design and A MFA from Maryland Institute Collage of Art.
