The artist puts his thumb upon the pulse of life and records it. In that mystical beat lies the unknown, and he would but make it known. Being both, innovator and spectator, he exists as an intrinsic part of that rhythm.
I try to approach each painting with a minimum of predigested information. I look at the world with the natural curiosity of a child, always looking for unique qualities that each new moment brings. Talent, I believe, is found in the ability to take risks, and with that in mind, I am continually willing to risk it all every time I paint. The most exciting paintings, for me, are the ones that balance a bold fresh approach with the sensitive and subtle workings of the heart and mind. - Al Lachman

From My First Love, Did I Awaken, Expressionist Abstract by Master Colorist
Located in Doylestown, PA
"From My First Love, Did I Awaken" is a 56 x 44 inches, original abstract by American master colorist painter Al Lachman. The artwork is a gallery wrapped canvas, signed "Lachman" in the lower left.
Life is a tapestry of experiences and emotions. It is a journey we are all on. And while our experiences may vary, it is sure to encompass a full range of human emotions. For me, it started some eighty-five years ago (my Mom said I popped out with a brush in my hand). There were only a few things I could do well, and drawing was one of them. So I set out to become an artist about seventy years ago. It ran the gamut of human experiences and emotions, from eating peanut butter sandwiches for breakfast, lunch, and dinner early in my career, to working all my adult life from nine to nine, seven days a week. I am driven…I paint every day that I am home.. - Al Lachman

Each painting begins with a premise, and I rarely use the same one twice. It is based on what I see and what I am feeling at that moment. I do not think that painting is about technique. It is about a particular perception of the world around us. The premise creates the periphery of my intent. It is a limitation that gives birth to the creative forces within. - Al Lachman
