About the Item

"Lacuna 1", 2024, Paris, France This artwork, created with India ink on antique cotton, evokes a visceral play between texture, pattern, and absence. Titled "Lacuna", the piece is an exploration of the concept itself—lacuna, from the Latin for "gap" or "void," refers to a missing part, an unfilled space, or an absent detail within a whole. The painting's composition is dominated by an intricate, almost organic arrangement of black ink blotches that resemble reptilian scales or cellular structures, expanding and contracting across the aged cotton surface. The density of these forms shifts subtly from top to bottom, gradienting from a lighter, airy speckling to a saturated, inky mass, mirroring a natural fading of decay or growth. What punctuates the rhythmic pattern is a stark vertical void—an intentional omission in the ink's flow—standing as the embodiment of lacuna itself. This bar of negative space interrupts the visual continuity, drawing attention to the absence as much as the presence, challenging the viewer to contemplate what is missing as much as what is seen. Option to purchase the painting individually, or consider pairing with its counterpart "Lacuna 2", as pictured. The pattern carries though both pieces, playing them against each other nicely. Please note, price and dimensions are for one painting only. Artists' signature and Evans Deventer stamp can be found the back, along with the painting's name, the location of where work was done and year, 2024.

"Set Us In Stone II" (abstract, pink, women, Parisian, graphic, bust, natural)
By Nicholas Evans
Located in Paris, IDF
SET US IN STONE II 2022 Paris, France Originally created as part of Nicholas' solo exhibition "This, and Thereafter (Plumes)," December 10, 2022 - January 7, 2023. The theme illustrated the enigmatic uncertainty around what might happen after life. A range of paintings were presented – vibrant and ethereal – touching on different aspects of this notion. Each painting had a different point of view, oftentimes focusing around the inevitability of what is to come, and if and how it influences the present. This particular piece centers around personal legacy, how you will be remembered, and how your life vanishes into an abstraction as time goes by. This notion is visualized with a bust set in stone. The technique Evans used was a mixing of water-based ink with a hint of pink, that he knew would react when overlaid with white acrylic, pulling out a lighter hue of the pink ink. The white silhouette of a portrait set in stone creates a ghostly continuation of the underlaid pattern. Option to create a pair alongside "Set Us In Stone I" (as pictured). Price and size are per painting. Evans Deventer...

"Lus Osculi" (Abstract Black & White, Graphic Painting, Roman-inspired, Neutral)
By Nicholas Evans
Located in Paris, IDF
Drawing inspiration from the ancient Roman term "Los Osculi," translating to "right to kiss," the artist delves into a compelling exploration of the past's intriguing customs. In ancient Rome, women were prohibited from drinking as it was believed to lead to adultery and even possess abortifacient properties. Consequently, the husband and male family members of an "honest" woman possessed the right to kiss her on the mouth to ensure her sobriety. The allure of fleeting kisses, whispers of scent, and the sensuality of suspicion captivated the artist's imagination. On an antique French canvas...

Untitled Pink 2 - Textural Abstract Minimalist Expressionist Artwork on Canvas
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Painting is fearlessly following an instinct for Togolese artist Olympio. His work is honest and palpable—exposed, raw, and direct. It is an unfiltered manifestation of his soul. Bright, energetic marks encircle rough textures, balanced by peaceful compositions emanating from below the surface. Olympio’s art transforms walls into landscapes of color and form, creating an engaging focal point that elevates any room's aesthetic to a new level. The heavily textured layers in Olympio’s work create a tangible sense of depth, drawing the eye and enriching the space with a bold yet nuanced presence. Olympio signs this 20-inch high by 24-inch wide mixed-media painting on the back of the canvas. The many layers in his work further emphasize the texture and visceral nature of his canvases. The painting is wired and ready to hang. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable U.S. and global shipping is available. A Certificate of Authenticity issued by Artplex Gallery is included. For the abstract artist Olympio, art is a dance of textures and colors, woven from an eclectic medley of canvas and textiles. Each stroke on his canvas is a nod to the classical ideals of modern abstraction, a harmonious blend of purpose and spontaneity. The linens and canvases he selects have borne witness to various conditions and interactions, embracing the imprints of their past experiences. Olympio meticulously stretches, glues, and layers these diverse fabrics together, infusing them with additional layers of acrylic paint, a fusion of careful craft and serendipitous revelation. In Olympio's art, deliberate strokes mingle with accidental splashes, forming a mesmerizing canvas that speaks to the ethos of modernism's evolution. It's a reminder that the legends of yesteryears now manifest as a distinct style, a testament to their enduring influence. His mastery over the medium amplifies, imbuing each piece with a romantic essence carefully counterbalanced by his practiced modesty. The strokes, swirling and turbulent, are immersed in a rich, opulent application of paint, akin to an expansive honeysuckle-pink landscape or a brooding soot-gray abyss. Yet within this whirlwind of impressions, Olympio maintains a sense of purpose, an elusive process that surrenders control to the animated paint and sculptural fabrics. Olympio possesses a rare duality, orchestrating the delicate balance between sensuality and subtlety within his creations. Navigating these opposing forces, he transcends distractions and attains the perfect pitch, crafting a visual symphony that resonates deeply. Olympio was born into a large family of eight children in Lomé, Togo, West Africa. He began his creating art by using building scraps to make sculptures. By the time he was in high school, he started to experiment with mixed-media and collage. He later transitioned to acrylic and oil on canvas. In 2001, Olympio left his home in Africa to live in Paris. Olympio moved to the United States in 2003 and has continued to paint. His work has been exhibited at Art Basel Miami, where in 2018 he was ranked one of the Top 10 Artists by Red Dot Miami. He was also recently interviewed for France 2, TV5Monde, and the BBC. His work has been exhibited and collected internationally.
