"Traces Of" (Abstract, Bold, Painting and Collage on Antique Wood, 50 x 26, 5cm)

2020

About the Item

TRACES 2020 Paris, France An abstract painting and collage done on antique wood. A vibrant, vivid red carries over to the sides of the painting and threads through the front, finding harmony in the fragmented pieces. Chipped paint from an old door creates graphic shapes, thoughtfully pieced together on the wood. The painting is executed on two connected, reclaimed wood panels, with roughly cut corners. There are signs of wear and aging in the wood itself, with some scratches, nail holes and rough, uneven edges, adding to the overall aesthetic. Adhesive is visible around the chips of paint. D-hooks for hanging are mounted on the back. Evans Deventer signature stamp features painting name, location of where work was done and year.

SHORT SPURTS 2021 Paris, France This piece is a visual interpretation of a poem the artist wrote around frenzied, short-sighted behaviors: “That part usually stays hidden. And we tangle ourselves in the traps we set for our prey.” - Nicholas Evans The painting is composed of plaster, oil and acrylic, with the main detail shape, in white, positioned over wood glue, leaving a slightly raised effect. Embracing the unique imperfections of reclaimed objects aged over time, Evans uses antique found...
