About the Item

Color Field - Abstract Green and Yellow by Patricia Gren Hayes Acrylic on Canvas Color Field abstract composition by Bay Area artist Patricia Gren Hayes (American, b. 1932). Wide brushstrokes of slightly transparent paint overlap to create a dynamic abstract composition. Greens and yellows make up the majority of the piece, but patches of dark blue, blue grey, and peach add contrast. Color Field painting is a term initially coined by art critic Clement Greenberg, and used to describe the works by Abstract Expressionist painters such as Mark Rothko and Barnett Newman. These artists composed their paintings with broad expanses of saturated color. Study in Green, Original Contemporary Abstract Expressionist Painting
Located in Boston, MA
Study in Green, Original Contemporary Abstract Expressionist Painting 24.0 x 28.0 x 1.0 (HxWxD), Oil Paint This work by artist Anne Ierardi strikes a balance between the rich, yet subdued, colors of an expressionist painting by someone like Henri Matisse, and the color forward abstraction of an artist like Hans Hofmann. Small accents of deep blue, light cream, soft purple, and rich red add punches of energy to the work. Artist Commentary Study in Green expresses my feelings for the beauty of nature and the possibilities that openness and the color green shows...
