About the Item
Perfect Paids by Rachel Livedalen is a screen print and acrylic on panel painting and measures 24 inches tall by 18 inches wide. This unique painting comes ready to hang and includes a certificate of authenticityy issued by the gallery.
Perfect pairs was featured in Livedalen's 2021 solo show, It's Kinda Like That, at Ivester Contemporary in Austin, Texas. It’s kinda like that, weaves the joy, color, and design of 90’s Girl Power with images and text pulled directly from Art History textbooks. Livedalen playfully challenges the hierarchy of the Arts by translating techniques associated with femininity and craft into the traditionally respected medium of paint on canvas. Scattered compositions of cutouts, stickers, and bright colorful shapes derived from makeup palettes and watercolor sets obscure black and white reproductions of Greco-Roman busts and descriptive lines of text. Her free-spirited approach to art making, paired with the exhibition’s title, declares that all media and any subject matter can convey valuable ideas.
Rachel Livedalen’s creative practice explores representations of femininity through the lens of art history, visual culture, and commodification. She earned her BA from the University of Virginia and her MFA in Printmaking from the University of Iowa. Rachel is currently an Associate Professor at Texas Christian University and heads the printmaking area. Her work has been supported by residencies at the Kala Art Institute and A&H Museums-Maitland as well as by the artist program at Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. She exhibits her interdisciplinary work widely and is based in Fort Worth, TX.
