Abstract Expressionist Geometric Oil on Linen Blocks of Color Diffusion 1967 Exceptional Abstract Geometric with texture and curves by Remo Michael Farruggio (American/Italian, 1905-1981). A balance of shapes and color with depth and tactile impressions carries the eye to places within the scene. Artist experimented with heavy coatings of acrylic and oil paint on verso, creating curves to the linen in places and shrinkage of paint in places, which were expected. Image, 24"H x 36"W Frame, 31.5 x 43.5 Born in Palermo, Sicily, Farruggio attended the Galilei Galilec private school until age 12, In 1922, the artist attended classes at the Educational Alliance, where he met other prominent artists of the day, including Robert Motherwell, Chaim Gross and the Soyer brothers. Farruggio then attended the Beaux Arts School and the Industrial Arts School, where he was taught by the marine painter, Abraham Bogdanov. Farruggio was a member of the Artists Equity Association of NY, the National Academy of Design and the Provincetown Art Association Farruggio took part in Works Progress Administration and the WPA* Artists Project and ultimately, was one of two artists chosen for a one-man show, which took place in 1939, at the Julien Levy Gallery* in NYC. in 1964, the artist spent his summers in Provincetown, MA. From the late 1930's to 1981, the artist painted, had several teaching posts and was honored with no less than 20 one-man shows and 25 group shows, winning several important awards along the way. Farruggio's style ranged from representational* to semi-abstract to surreal* to non-objective. His works are included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC and the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian Institution.

Very good. He experimented with heavy coatings on verso, creating curves to the linen in places and shrinkage of paint in places, which were expected. A few areas, top light green, had some lifting, stabilized and retouched. Frame, very good, as-is.
