About the Item
Richard Koppe (American, 1916 - 1973) studied at the St. Paul School of Art and the New Bauhaus in Chicago, where he was mentored by Laszlo Moholy-Nagy, Gyorgy Kepes, and Alexander Archipenko. He later taught at the Institute of Design, shaping a generation of artists while developing his own distinctive approach to abstraction and surrealism. Koppe exhibited widely, including at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney, and numerous other American institutions. Sager Reeves Gallery presents an original gouache on mounted paper, depicting elongated standing forms in a dreamlike landscape, a striking example of his Surrealist-era explorations of space, form, and ethereal narrative.
