Passages: One 2014 10” x 10” Acrylic, tempera, enamel, granular and bead gel on cotton duck. Bio: Rosetta DeBerardinis As a child, visual artist Rosetta DeBerardinis refused to be confined to the lines of paint- by-numbers projects or the colors assigned in the instructions. Little has changed about the native New Yorker whose colorful explosive abstract expressionist paintings drip, gesture and meld onto 9 feet substrates. And, her drawings of towering urban environments abutting each other along with her three-dimensional assemblages incorporating repurposed materials are created a few steps from the nation’s Capitol in Washington, D.C and in Brooklyn, N.Y. DeBerardinis spent several years at Pratt Institute’s children’s art classes before heading to Vassar College where she continued to pursue both an interest in art and writing; summer coursework at the Fashion Institute of Technology then onto study at The London School for Social Research, graduate work at Rice University and finally departing academia with both a master’s degree and a Juris Doctorate. Prior to transitioning into a full-time studio practice, she held positions at the U.S. Copyright Office, Saks Fifth Avenue, fashion editor and features contributor to numerous publications such as the Washingtonian, Elle, Seventeen, The Washington Times, Essence, United Press International, Baltimore magazine, Houston City magazine, Art Scene, Art Happenings of Houston, Virginia-Pilot Ledger- Star and Fashion Week Daily. She profiled the artist Erte; designers Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Oscar de la Renta; cosmetic queen Estee Lauder; modeling agency maven Eileen Ford; model Brooks Shields; fashion empress Diana Vreeland and many more. She even spent a decade fencing competitively and trained with the U.S. Olympic team.
