About the Item

The Gribshunden reflects themes of intergenerational connection and storytelling, inspired by both the historical wreck of the Danish royal ship and the collective nourishment of the Stone Soup story. Like the villagers in Stone Soup, who contribute individual ingredients to create something greater, the painting explores how shared histories, memories, and efforts connect us across time. The wreck of the Gribshunden serves as a metaphor for how past experiences — whether joyful or tragic — continue to shape our present. Through this work, I aim to evoke the resilience of the ship and its crew, as well as the enduring power of stories passed down through generations. This piece celebrates the ongoing conversation between the past and present, inviting reflection on the legacies that unite us across time.
