Sunset Song Series, a luminous collection of latest artworks we’re thrilled to present, which are featured in the upcoming Summer Exhibition catalogue, U.K. , 2025
Painted entirely en plein air under dimmed light in sunset hours, with no artificial light to guide her, Shizico Yi embraced the evening light with unfiltered presence.
Relying solely on instinct, memory, and decades of intimate knowledge of her hand-mixed pigments, she rendered the shifting skyline and the interplay of light and shadow through pure feeling and confidence and understanding of her craft. Later after the oil paint dried, she added the gold leaf part to complete the painting in the studio, the painting took over weeks and stages to complete.
This painting is a meditation on seeing without looking, on trust in one’s craft, and on the deep, expressive power of painting. The colour and tonal contrast between evening pinkie sunset against velvety dark green lime trees and the gold leaf sunset glorious colour, evokes a poetic stillness, making this small work one of Shizico’s most celebrated pieces, a quiet triumph of vision, presence, and artistic devotion.

Dr. Shizico Yi is a UK artist working on installations, films and paintings; the documentary nature of her work often concerns about the loss, repetition, the everyday subject and memories .
With design and film background, Shizico combines her interests making installation projects which relate to artist's personal life in relation to the society and human condition at large.
Shizico Yi holds a PhD in Fine Art awarded by UEL, UK 2017; she had completed a Master in Fine Art with a BA in Womenswear from UAL. London. She is also the Winner of Women Film Makers: Best Shorts Competition 2013 Los Angels. USA.

Shizico Yi's work aims to explore artistic obsession through repetitive documentation of the domestic and the everyday. Yi uses painting, drawing, photography, large-scale installations, moving image projections, and two-dimensional visual images to articulate her relationship to family and memories, and time.
