About the Item

Contemporary abstract painting by local Houston artist Tod Bailey. The work is referential to the famous painting titled "The Death of Marat" by Jacques-Louis David from 1793 featuring the murdered French revolutionary leader, Jean-Paul Marat. Signed, in the front lower left corner. Currently hung in a metal frame. Dimensions Without Frame: H 48 in. x W 72 in. Artist Biography: "Life and art. It is said that you cannot have one without the other. The art of Tod Bailey may just confirm this notion. Tod Bailey’s paintings illustrate a life that is dedicated to the exploration and expression of its pains, pleasures and what may lie between. Immersing himself in art history and essential art movements, literature and culture, Bailey creates bold and energetic works that are at once engaging and challenging. His paintings contain the artist’s struggle to portray his innate and acquired knowledge in a tangible form and enlist the viewer in that effort. His paintings, which are seemingly dense with personal and referential meaning, capture a strangeness embedded in the familiar. The work possesses a form of constructed incoherence, which prompts the viewer to ask themselves what it may ultimately tell them."- Written by Jay Wehnert

"Napa Underground" Red and Blue Contemporary Abstract Landscape Painting
Located in Houston, TX
Abstract contemporary landscape painting by Texas artist, Nathaniel Sing. This piece features a door to Napa Underground winery in California blending with a red and blue gradient background. Signed and dated by the artist at the back. Unframed but framing options are available. Artist Statement: What is color to you? Really think about it for a second. Go past the everyday backdrops, items, clothing, spaces, etc. in your life. Perhaps think about your favorite color. A memory of an unforgettable sunset, or even a specific moment in your life. I have found especially with memories and emotions, that colors provide a base for those things to exist in our minds. Memories and emotions are inherently fading or fleeting as our lives move forward. My question and focus are how we preserve them for our own personal reasons, growth, or perhaps a way to humble ourselves. Through the use of acrylic paints, graphic design, and color relationships I aim to capture the essence of emotions and memories. Although each of these paintings is from my own personal experiences and memories my intent is to capture and express them through the lens of color and their relationships with each other and ourselves. 'Red, ' by XVALA, Acrylic, Oil Stick and Spray Paint on Canvas Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This large scale 76" x 90" mixed media canvas painting by XVALA features a Basquiat-style large red creature predominantly placed on the canvas against a light blue background. Other colors include varying blues, golds and black. Acrylic paint, spray paint and oil stick were used on a linen canvas. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...
