Vera Idelson
Mid-Century Modernist 'Composition Biomorphique' Tempera Painting

1946

About the Item

This strikingly etherial Mid-Century Modernist Vera Idelson 'Composition Biomorphique' Tempera on masonite Painting originates from Israel, created in 1946. A unique and gorgeous piece, the painting consists of a amorphous form in the center of the composition where a variety of distinct biomoriphic forms wind into and around one another in a variety of carefully balanced and dynamic colors and well achieved gradients of value and temperature. Full of movement and powerful contrasts, the eye is drawn into the painting upon first glance and then travels throughout the harmonious curvilinear lines and sumptuous forms brilliantly depicted in the Tempera on Wood Panel. Full of complimentary contrasts of greens, reds, pinks, and blues, along with dashes of white and yellow and hints of more neutral grey tones, with a deep and alluring shadow floating around the edge of the central composition, making the form feel as though it's sinking into or emerging from a deep and mysterious blue environment. Rendered in Tempera, a fast drying and highly durable paint formed from egg yolks serving as the binder, this painting is in stunning condition and painted with fluidity in confidence. Vera Idelson is an Israeli artist known for her use of winding forms and unique compositions, personal and yet grounded in the sensibility of Mid-Century Modernist Abstract Painting. In a Custom Ebonized Walnut Gallery Frame. This piece will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Contemporary and Minimal Interiors. In Excellent Vintage Condition. Signed in the lower right corner by the artist. Israel, 1946 Dimensions: Height: 32" x Width: 40" x Depth: 2.25"
