About the Artist: Wilma Fiori
Wilma Fiori (née Wilma Denny), born in Youngstown, Ohio in 1929 and raised in Great Bend, Kansas, was a pioneering force in Colorado's art scene. Fiori studied at Loretto Heights College in Denver, Colorado, where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in 1952. Two years later, she married fellow student Bob Fiori, and the couple raised four children while maintaining a connection to the college as active alumni.
Her interest in anthropology led her to pursue a Master's of Arts in Anthropology at the University of Denver in 1979. During this time, she worked as a curatorial assistant in the Native Arts Department of the Denver Art Museum, where she developed a deep appreciation for Southwestern Native American pottery and textiles. The geometric designs and cultural influences she encountered during her time at the museum played a significant role in her shift toward abstract painting.
In 1987, Fiori met Dale Chisman, a prominent Colorado artist, and studied under his guidance at the Art Students League of Denver until 2007. She also collaborated with and learned from other talented Colorado artists including Bill Joseph, Jeffery Keith, Quang Ho, and Mark Lunning. Over the course of more than three decades, Wilma Fiori exhibited her works in galleries and museums across Colorado, Indiana, Illinois, and New York.
Fiori's artwork is included in numerous permanent collections, including those at Regis University, the Denver Ritz Carlton Hotel, and in various private and corporate collections. Her works have left a lasting impact on the contemporary Colorado art scene, and her legacy continues to inspire collectors and art enthusiasts alike.

Although Fiori was born in Ohio, she grew up in Great Bend, Kansas before moving to Colorado to attend Loretto Heights College, where she received her BFA. However, after she graduated in 1952, she discovered her passion for anthropology, and in 1979, she received a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Denver. Fiori was fortunate to work as a curatorial assistant to Richard Conn in the Native Arts Department of the Denver Art Museum. The Denver Art Museum was the first Fine Art Museum in the United States to show Native American Art. The pottery and textiles from the Southwestern tribes inspired Fiori’s fascination with geometric designs and like many of her contemporary artists, it contributed to her shift towards abstract painting. In 1987, Fiori met Dale Chisman, a prominent Colorado artist, and studied under him at the Art Students League of Denver until 2007. She also met and studied alongside other talented Colorado artists including Bill Joseph, Jeffery Keith, Quang Ho, and Mark Lunning. Fiori exhibited her artwork for over 30 years in Colorado, Indiana, Illinois, and New York.
