About the Item
Alexandra Rozenman’s “Morning of the First Act” is a 20 x 16 x 2 inch oil painting on canvas. It gives us a feeling that something magical is about to happen. Bright morning light of a blue sky shines on the two green chairs standing in the middle of a large and empty field. A river or maybe a swimming pool is on the right behind the dark fence. Faraway we see a red and white old-fashioned circus tent with the magic wheel next to it. Three blue buses are parked in front of it. Are all the clowns, acrobats and magicians still asleep or is everybody having breakfast in a village nearby? As in other Rozenman paintings – these questions are now yours to answer. We do know from the title of the painting that what is about to happen is new, fresh and because of that unpredictable. This image tickles your senses about beginnings, ends, length and unpredictability of everything. This piece is signed, titled and dated on the back and initialed on the front.
Alexandra Rozenman immigrated to America from the Soviet Union in 1989. Russian, European and American myths of national destiny and private identity take on a utopian dimension as she absorbs and expresses the psychology of otherness as fundamental aspects of her own identity. She wants her art to be like a well-worn military wool blanket that gives you warmth, love, and history. The artist states. Whatever degree of abstraction defines my thinking and visual self-identification it has all to do with the search for my own image in a great existential sea of sweeping change. Rozenman is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.
