About the Artist: Alfred Wands, born in Cleveland, Ohio, was a renowned American artist recognized for his modernist landscapes and watercolor work. Wands graduated with honors from the Cleveland School of Art before studying at the prestigious Académie Julian in Paris. Upon returning to Ohio, he became a faculty member at the Cleveland School of Art and Museum of Art. In 1930, Wands moved to Denver to lead the art program at Colorado Women’s College, where he remained for 17 years. He frequently visited Taos, New Mexico, spending summers there between 1930 and 1940, deeply influencing his work. By 1943, he had become the Camp Artist at YMCA of the Rockies, where he also taught art classes. Wands went on to become a prominent figure in the Colorado art community, known as the "Dean of Colorado Landscape Painters." He served as President of the Denver Artists Guild and Chairman of the Denver Art Commission for 16 years. Wands was also a member of several prestigious art organizations, including the Cleveland Society of Artists, Ohio Watercolor Society, and Chicago Galleries Association.
