Frederick George Cotman was born in Ipswich on 14 August 1850. His uncle, John Sell Cotman, was one of the cornerstones of the Norwich school and a very influential watercolourist. Frederick's first tuition came from William Griffiths, headmaster of Ipswich School of Art. In 1868 he enlisted at the Royal Academy Schools and his proficiency as a draughtsman and painter in oils and watercolours was rewarded with four silver and a gold medal for The Death of Eucles now at the Ipswich Town Hall. His teachers in London were Frederick Leighton (1830-1896) and Henry Tanworth Wells (1828-1903). Cotman became established as a London society portrait painter, for which he could command a fee of 300 guineas and also produced homely genre scenes. Childers attended Medford schools, graduating in 1941 from Medford High School. While a student he had small parts in early Oregon Shakespearean Festival productions in Ashland.
Following graduation he served in the U.S. Navy for six years.
He attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Art, and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, from which he received his master’s degree. He received a gold medal upon graduating from the Museum School of Art and attended the Academy of Fine Arts on a Cresson scholarship.
He also attended evening classes at Fleisher Memorial and performed for two years with the Philadelphia Dance Theater.
His paintings – oil on canvas and wood – are exhibited in Philadelphia galleries, including three permanent exhibits in Wagner, Pa., and Minsky History of Theater. He was sponsored for three one-man shows in Philadelphia.
While in Florida he worked for Ron Rico Rum.
Following his studies, he worked in fabrics, film production, toys and illustrations for publishers with du Pont in New York City. At the same time he maintained a studio and old twine factory over the Cherry Lane Theater.
He lived in Greenwich Village for 19 years before accepting a position developing new products for American Greetings Inc. While there he designed the Holly...

This work is a fully realized study for the foreground compositional element in Dupré's 1882 oil painting, "In Pasture", held in the permanent collection of the Kemper Art Museum, Washington University, St. Louis, (see photo, above). In 1886, this large work was purchased by member subscription for the museum's permanent collection.
Julien Dupré first exhibited at the 1876 Paris Salon and, thereafter, almost continuously until his death in 1910. Over the course of a long and distinguished career, he was the recipient of numerous prizes, medals and juried awards including a gold medal at the Paris Fair of 1889. In 1992, he was invested as a companion of the Legion of Honor for his services to art.

Piero Aversa was born in Asmara, Eritrea, East Africa, educated at the Belle Arte in Rome, and lived and exhibited worldwide. He moved to the US in 1953. Piero Aversa was passionate about many facets of artistic expression. A larger than life Gay Artist, he enjoyed the company of many jet setters in New York City during his Fashion and Interior Design days. Originally from Italy he finally settled in Key West, Florida where the largest collection of his art is displayed. His talents span design in fabrics, wall covering, jewelry and films as well as the fine arts. The exhibition in Rome in 1959, of “The Most Beautiful Women of Rome”, catapulted him to international recognition. In New York, he designed celebrity mannequins for the windows of Saks Fifth Avenue. The depicted “New York's high-born, wealthy jet-setters” included Louise Savitt, Baby Jane Holzer and Wendy Vanderbilt.
He is acknowledged for his sensitivity to the different lands he had been inspired by, from the primitive backdrops of Greek Mythology to the botanical lushness of Mexico, Italy, Greece and the Southern United States. He established his own line of wallpapers and fabrics, receiving praise for his interior design of suites at the historic Colony Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida. Aversa was collected by actresses Katherine Hepburn and Agnes Moorehead; diplomat and prominent New York socialite, Francis Kellogg; gallery owner, Julius Fleischmann; society songstress and millionaire industrialist, Mr. & Mrs. David Muss; and American songwriter, Jule Styne. He was also collected by various Italian nobility, Count and Countess Scribani Rossi from Rome, Principessa Niky Boncompagni, and Countess Alicia Paolozzi from Rome. The arrival of Piero in Mykonos, Greece and opening of his bar in the early 70's began a somewhat historical era for the gay community of the time.
