Bernard Harmon was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1935. Harmon was primarily a portrait painter and a well loved teacher in the Philadelphia area. A graduate of the Philadelphia Museum School and Temples Tyler School of Art, Harmon traveled extensively in Europe and South America. Beloved by many, Harmon taught in the Philadelphia School District for 32 of his 54 years of life. Beginning his career as an art teacher at West Philadelphia High School, in the early 1960s he became one of the district's artists in residence, traveling from school to school to demonstrate for students how an artist works. Returning to the classroom, Harmon joined the art department at Central High School where he taught for 14 years and became an innovator in art curriculum, developing a program offering advanced placement art classes to gifted students. In his final years Harmon became a supervisor, mentoring teachers and overseeing programs in the Philadelphia school systems District #1. During his short life Harmon taught collage preparatory art classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, summer classes at the University of the Arts, and a Saturday program for gifted children at Drexel University. Among Harmon's portraits were commissioned by Philadelphia Jazz organist Jimmy Smith and Mayor Richardson Dilworth. Anjolaoluwa Arike Fatunmbi is an artist based in the southwest city of Ibadan, Oyo state, Nigeria. Her medium of art is expressed in traditional Adire and Ankara fabric with a blend of acrylic on canvas. Her journey into art began at an early stage while watching her father work on various forms of art as a seasoned professional. For, Arike, Art was second nature as she lived and dreamed of art in an environment beaming with top professionals and ardent art enthusiasts.
As she advanced in age with a broader exposure to the vicissitudes of life and a deeper understanding of how human nature transcends and reinvents in a constantly changing circle, her works are consciously impacted by her cultural roots and personal experiences. Arike’s textile art is composed of intricate compositions of layers of fabric, flowery patterns, and detailed attention to the markings of the female features. Her pieces are reflective of her personality as she loves to incorporate vibrant colors and whimsical designs.
With her early start in the Art scene, Arike has been able to apprentice under renowned masters in the Art sector like the globally acclaimed proponent of Contemporary Black Art, Oluwole Omofemi. André Elbaz (born April 26, 1934, El Jadida, Morocco) is a famous Moroccan painter and filmmaker.
Elbaz studied art and theatre in Rabat and Paris from 1950 to 1961. He started painting only at the age of 21, until which age he had been interested mainly in theatre. A few years later, he managed to combine his two passions into a new approach in art-therapy, inventing together with his wife, a psychiatrist, the Pictodrame, which brought him world recognition.
His first exhibition, which was very successful, took place in Casablanca in 1961 and earned him an appointment as Professor at the Beaux-Arts school in Casablanca. Years later, in 1976, he exhibited his paintings at the Tel-Aviv Museum.
In parallel to his career as a painter, Elbaz is also known as a filmmaker. He produced several short films in France, Canada and the United States. In 1963, Adler was chief among a group of well known artists who immigrated to Israel. He was awarded the Nordau prize in 1978. He works have been auctioned at Sloan's Auction House in Maryland and Karrenbauer Auction House in Germany and today are represented in the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem. André Elbaz (born April 26, 1934, El Jadida, Morocco) is a famous Moroccan painter and filmmaker.
Elbaz studied art and theatre in Rabat and Paris from 1950 to 1961. He started painting only at the age of 21, until which age he had been interested mainly in theatre. A few years later, he managed to combine his two passions into a new approach in art-therapy, inventing together with his wife, a psychiatrist, the Pictodrame, which brought him world recognition.
His first exhibition, which was very successful, took place in Casablanca in 1961 and earned him an appointment as Professor at the Beaux-Arts school in Casablanca. Years later, in 1976, he exhibited his paintings at the Tel-Aviv Museum.
In parallel to his career as a painter, Elbaz is also known as a filmmaker. He produced several short films in France, Canada and the United States. One of them, La nuit n'est jamais complète (The night is never complete), won a prize at the "5th Biennale de Paris in 1967". Among the themes chosen for the many films he produced, there was a short one about the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, as well as a series of drawings entitled Seuls (Alone), with texts written by both Elie Wiesel...
