About the Item
Like Swimming In A Quarry - 120 feet and dark in the middle. One of Wadsworth's celebrated & innovative Black Cloth series. His sitters pose with a large black cloth & talk about what they're feeling during the experience. Wadsworth then paints the sitter in their chosen "guise", sometimes also recording their voices. The sitter then passes the black cloth to another person and the cycle continues. Ink, watercolour, white oil bar and graphite.

He had the honor of being the first African American player to hit a home run at the famed Yankee Stadium in 1930. Lawrence has captured the ball player here in all his glory.
