Interior courtyard scene by Santa Cruz, California artist Betsy J. Miller (American, b. 1956). This piece is a part of the artist's series of "Site Portraits." An square doorway in a dark wall is illuminated by the interior space behind it. Bold orange and teal contrast nicely with rich dark blues. A flame can be seen through the doorway - the source of illumination for the courtyard. The shadows of two figures can be see, one is inside the courtyard, the other is outside, next to the doorway.
Initialed and dated in the lower right corner ("BJM 89")
